Most overrated albums

True that Godbluff isn't the best VDGG album like some people say, but it's still a masterpiece.  Not as much experimentation, but it has VDGG's tightest and most mature compositions in their career.

I definitely agree about "Animals"

In the Court is revered for being the first true prog album, but 40 years on, it's pretty poor, Epitaph and the title track excepted.

The Wall isn't great, Godbluff leaves me cold (like all VDGG) and I completely fail to see why anything by PFM or Banco is so revered - their albums are 3* at best. Script is a bit overrated; I prefer Fugazi, Misplaced Childhood and Clutching at Straws (but why didn't Script have Market Square Heroes on it??)

Moonmadness isn't as quite as good as The Snow Goose but that's like saying Rafael Nadal isn't quite as good as Roger Federer; it's still brilliant. ITLOGAP in my favourite Caravan album and nearly merits 5*.

But the album that gets my vote as most overrated is Harmonium's Si On Avait............etc. It's pleasant enough but never a masterpiece in a million years.

The entire catalogue of Depeche Mode. They're good band band but not that good.

As for prog album, I won't even start naming them.

Thirteen albums here are all great, but since they are rated higher than number fourteen, they qualify as overrated by definition, imho.

but "In the Court of the Crimson King" is not really the first true prog album, at least definitely not in the way "this is the album that started it all", as some people claim. had there been no "In the Copurt of the Crimson King" prog would have started nevertheless at the same time; many bands were already doing similar things. the German prog scene goes back to 1967, but German bands had an inferiority complex and did not dare to publish an album. had it not been for Amon Düül's "Psychedelic Underground" Krautrock might never have happened, but after that album no band needed to have an ifneriority complex; they could certainly not be worse than that.
as to "Epitaph": in my opinion the worst track on "In the Court of the Crimson King"
