Great and rather under-rated band (IMO),  5 classic albums.  Which do you prefer?

In my view, Au-delà du Délire is their most accomplished, and one of the finnest progressive rock albums ever made. At some distance but still towering over the rest I would put the début Caricatures and Guet-Apens

Only have their three first, and love all of them about equally. Don't know what to vote, but want to keep the poll alive a little longer.

Au-delà du délire.

Guys, the main song is AN ABSOLUTE SYMPHONIC CLASSIC !!!!!

I think it's a kind of French Gabriel-era-Genesis.

I had to resurrect this thread and give a vote to Emile Jacotey.  They're all at least very good to great!

What about Guet-Apens?  That has to be included in a poll of best Ange albums--it was their last great one, to my ears.

the first three are all you need really , because they never bettered them, even in recent albums (Try Culinaire lingus if you want to investigate 90's & 00's albums)

I went for Arlequins (but that one and Caricatures really need a new CD remastering)

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

As an update to my previous post, I'd like to add that, although slightly different from their 70's output, their album from 2010 Le Bois Travaille, Même Le Dimanche, is quickly becoming my 3rd favorite by them. Heart

I'm also a sucker for this great album, pretty much the current line-up of Ange under the Decamps solo moniker: http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=27739

Au Dela du Delire is among my top 15 (#12 to be precise) ever , so its a no-brainer. Cimetiere des Arlequins remains a Halloween favorite (spooky) , Jacotey and Mandrin are equally amazing. Caricatures is a little raw but still very worthy.
I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

I kind of like the sound of Caricatures, but Arlequins really sounds dreadful, probably the reason why I don't enjoy it as much as the others.

You must know that Ange was a low budjet band, even if successful at the time, and it's the main reason that led the band to split up,I saw the band several times from Carricatures to Get-Apens and they were exciting, but the production through the albums is Stern Smile but those were the rules in France at the time , no right studios , no fitting sound engineers , no fitting budjet Wink

Caricatures, the title track is amazing!  Ange find directly their own sound that they will lost bit by bit throughout their career.

Good analysis LOL that special sound made with low budjet keyboards through a lot of effects ( with the tremolo at the slower set up to create kind of cheap mellotron )LOL
