I have just finished listening to The Rainmaker by The Flower Kings and I want to share some positive thoughts on this album that was, from what I have read, received with average reviews.
I have been listening to Space Revolver almost non-stop for two weeks, sharing time with Selling England By the Pound, and I finally received The Rainmaker. So, into my MP3 player it goes and then I discovered a very solid album. I enjoyed all of the songs and their different styles. Being a big fan of instrumentals, I give Blessing of a Smile and Red Alert a solid 5 stars. The Rainmaker instrumental was somewhat of a letdown, but enjoyable nonetheless. The epics were solid and World Without A Heart is very beautiful. I admit that the weird vocals on Last minute on Earth are a bit surprising, but fun.
So, that's about it. I'm going for another listen this evening
Thanks for reading.

It's not an awful album, but it's not great as Space Revolver or any other album from The Flower Kings.
I like to call The Rainmaker Disc 2 of Space Revolver if Space Revolver had been released as a double album. The Rainmaker does have some similar aspects, the riffs and the melodies, but overall it's not really strong.

Rainmaker is my least favorite Flower Kings album to date - but that doesn't mean I'm right! It had some undefined aspect that just didn't work with me, but I've heard many favorable things about it from others.

Its my favorite TFK disc. Pretty different from the rest of the stuff I"ve heard from them.
If Man Overboard ever sees this thread he'll post all over it.

It's certainly not a bad album, in fact it starts off great. I just feel it loses its way a bit halfway.

Here's my review:
http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=283232 Not terrible, but not oozing with love, I'm afraid. Strong 3 star album for me. |
