Someone set a poll of Pat Metheny albums, but there are a lot of omissions....
I've tried to make a full discography poll... but 25 limit....
So I split albums with ECM era and Post ECM era
This is the second poll of PM albums... Edited by Rexez73 - July 06 2010 at 19:16 |

The Way Up is the greatest PMG album (so far), in my opinion. It should do pretty well in a Prog poll.

Haven't listened to all of those, but I've listened to at least 7 of them and I think I'm able to vote considering the quantity of options...
I'll go for Imaginary Day.

The Way Up is simply an incredible album. I like Imaginary Day a lot as well, followed by Letter From Home.

Imaginary Day gets my vote, Way Up and Day Trip are also great. Question and Answer is a great trio record with Dave Holland on bass and the great drumming by Roy Haynes. Metheny always has good musicians surrounding him on his solo albums and group albums.

The rhythm section of Larry Grenadier and Bill Stewart might be reformative for Pat Metheny and Jazz. The talent expands the possibility.

I've got less than half of these. Of those I do have, I have to rank Imaginary Day at the top and I'd recommend avoiding the one with Scofield. These aren't bad albums, but they seem less inspired than his earlier ones. One Quiet Night really illustrates this for me. It's solo acoustic guitar, he's using alternate tunings, but it's no New Chautauqua. My last one to date is The Way Up, which is well regarded around here. Me, I could take it or leave it.
Definitely to be commended for experimenting more.

By the way, if you're an Imaginary Day fan, you'll need to get a copy of the live DVD. It's verry nice.
