Def Leppard were heavy metal to start with until turning into a boring AOR band.

I voted Neo Prog. Iron Maiden were the only thing I liked from nwobbem and they always had more ambition than the rest. Phantom Of The Opera is an incredible track for instance.
Actually on second thoughts I quite liked Judas Priest and Motorhead at the time but that quickly passed.

People should really read the damn question before answering it ! ! ! It´s not about which scene you like the most ('cause that definitely would have been NEO-PROG for me, but I voted NWoBHM....that makes you think, doesn't it?)

I can't believe NWOHMB is beating a prog genre on PA

And I voted neo-prog to save its arse.
let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

I think the joke is actually on you, the Leps were a huge part of the early NWoBHM.

What they did later does not detract from that.

In fact I can guarantee it, seeing as I saw them perform in 1980 at the height of the era.
