I just received this email this morning.  Since most of you realize what he means to me...I thought I'd share my sadness with you and hope that those of you who can, send a few prayers and/or best wishes Keith's way...

This is OFFICIAL:

All dates announced for The Keith Emerson Band Tour 2005-06, starting in Italy, July 19th, has been cancelled indefinitely......... Sorry :-(

Day-before-yesterday, unexpectedly and unfortunately, Keith was informed by his cardiologist in Los Angeles, that he has a blockage in an artery in his heart and will require, at the minimum, having a stent inserted in the blocked vessel to open it up and additional drug therapy and treatment. The recovery from a successful procedure like this is about a month or so.......... On the other hand, if he elects to have bypass surgery, he will need at least six months or more to recover from the surgery and who knows how long to regain a satisfactory level of proficient  playing, suitable to his standards.  I am sure that any encouragement by all will be appreciated. Sad news . Hopefully however, the good news may be that this was diagnosed and will be treated in time.

My dad had a triple heart bypass 4 years ago and he's absolutely fine now.
I am sure that Keith has maintained a high level of general fitness and let's hope he is fighting fit again soon.

Since the problem has been recognised in its early stages, he should be just fine.

He's on his way to England today to get a second opinion.  I'm hoping its only necessary for him to do the stents.

My brother had 5 by-passes done 20 years ago at 40 and another 3 a few years ago.  He recently had stents put in also.  He seems to be doing great... so I'm hoping all this will do to Keith is be an inconvenience for a few months.. and then he can get back to bashing and slamming as usual.

My grandad had a quintuple bypass last year, and plans to ride in a week-long 350 mile bike ride this year.

Get better Keith. He is one of the best musicians out there. The world is not ready to lose him.

Here's to you, Keith

It's a straightforward enough procedure these days, and from what I hear Keith runs very fast marathons in his spare time, so he's obviously in good shape - here's hoping he's back to fighting fitness soon.
