Topic: Fates Warning vs. Redemption Posted: July 20 2010 at 06:00 |
Which one do you prefer? Same singer, Ray Adler, same genre, progressive metal, but each band is unique. Fates Warning's first albums were heavy metal with some prog, but later the band created great albums like Parallels, A Pleasant shade of grey, Perfect Symmetry and so on.. However Redemption is a newer band, but they have already created masterpieces ( The fullness of time is one of my favourites!)
I say: now I vote for Fates Warning, but If Redemption keep making great albums, then they can become many people's favourite band!
And what about you?

I started this topic myself a little while ago but got no response, boo hoo hoo, despite what I thought was the contentious position that Redemption are better. Fate's Warning are certainly more important as they were pioneers whereas Redemption are not, but Redemption's records are much better produced and fuller sounding and sophisticated.

I like Redemption a lot and think they make some of the best Prog metal MUSIC on the planet. However, I think their lyrics are often terrible, cheesy and adolescent.
My vote for Fates Warning

Well their lyrics might be sometimes cheesy, but I wouldn't call them terrible. Almost every song has some kind of story behind it, and the lyrics represent it quite well in most cases. Though of course they could develop their songwriting skills a little bit :)

Alder is no longer in Redemption.
His replacement is Tom Englund of Evergrey.
