Just got into Anathema recently. I bought WHBWH because Steven Wilson produced it (PT are possibly my favourite band), on a whim one day. And it turned out to be a great purchase. I enjoyed the album a lot. It's marvellous. Then, interested, I decided to check out their other stuff. Now I'm a big fan. I have all the albums except Silent Enigma and Eternity. I need those ones.
My favourite Anathema albums are Alternative 4 and We're Here Because We're Here. I like both the doom metal era and their current incarnation. Lee Douglas as a permanent addition was a good move. She does a great job with the female vocals on WHBWH. My fave songs so far are Fragile Dreams, Regret, and A Simple Mistake.

Ok,Anathema is one of my favorite bands.Of course I like very much their progressive era.But I would prefer to have death/black metal vocals in their progressive era.A dying wish for me.

It's like the changing of the seasons. Winter into spring. I like the doom and the prog eras. They still have that kind of melodic, melancholic sound, but the doominess has been replaced by a more optimistic tone. It's the music of beautiful sadness.

It has to be 'One Last Goodbye'. Such a moving song. Flying is a close second for me!

tough, song titles. I prefer the 7th song of my fav Anathema A fine day to exit. But I'm too lazy to go pick up my CD and check if it's in the list. |

One of my favourite bands!
They are one of those bands where it's hard for me to choose a favourite, but I would have to say 'A Natural Disaster' is my favourite, it's the most consistent release. |

Too many good Anathema songs in here.. For prog fans : Judgement is their album most similar to Pink Floyd |
