Well ok, prog-related might be the best case then. I did think people would find this intrusion of blues, harmonica and other stuff into keyboard music more charming than just watering down the prog. Should I be sending PM's then to special collaborators or does this already have attention of someone reading this thread?

Already took the case to an Administrator, we will have to wait until they decide.

Well guys, the case was presented to the Administrator's Team and by reasons I understand, didn't accepted the band in Prog Related.

There's nothing more we can do, they have the last word in this case and it was no.

This is a surprising outcome - I understand why symphonic would reject them, but not even prog-related?

What were the reasons?

I get that the decision is final - I'm interested in the reasons in case they apply to any other band I might want to suggest in the future. (There's a heap of Australian bands that don't seem to have been discussed here yet.)

Please Irrelevant, we know what we do

1.- Crossover rejected them, THAT'S A SIGN THAT THE ONLY ALTERNATIVE IS PROG RELATED
2.- The three members of teh Symphonic Team, Lazland (with whom we rarely agree, SMURPH (Don't know him), Marty McFly, Andy Webb (Who's opinion I respect) and Sl75 agree they are not Symphonic.
3. Proggnosis says

4.- Gibraltar Encyclopedia of Progressive Rock doesn't even mention them
5.- DPRP Doesn't mention
6.- ProgressoR as long as I notice, doesn't even mentiobn Chetarca
7.- Progrtessiveears says:

Quote Chetarca Blues band turned Prog. ELP and Nektar influenced

Ambiguous to say the less

8.- ProgressiveRock.com (Strawberry Bricks), doesn't mention them
9.- Sea opf Tranquility doesn't mention them,

Quote 0 Record(s) found for "Chetarca" by All

10.- I sent the band to the Prog Related team, and they (who know their work), decided Chetarca doesn't fit in Prog Related on August last year

So it's evident, the band is not Symphonic.

Sorry, I also believed they could be PR, but I respect the administrator's work.

On a general point

A lack of listing with X Y & Z may be more of a pointer to an artist's obscurity, rather than their lack of credentials.

As far as I can tell from quick perusal, most of those sites cover hardly any Australian music of the era at all.

Be assured that I already knew how to find the Australia page.

My observation was actually about 'Australian music of the era' (ie the 1970s) - with that qualification, there's only 26 Australian artists 'of the era' on this site so far. Better than most other international sites, but still not exhaustive. Deciding whether or not to include an artist by benchmarking against even less-exhaustive sites doesn't seem helpful.

Most of us are not Australian my friend, and for that reason unfamiliar with bands from this country.

There are very rare Peruvian bands, and when I joined PA, I had to suggest, add and make the first reviews for Traffic Sound and Laghonia, because except Cesar Inca and Myself, few people knew about them.

The teams are open and willing to receive your suggestions WITH SAMPLES AND FULL LIST OF RELEASES, which we will evaluate ASAP (Symph Team evaluates them normally in the first 24 hours), you can send me a PM and I assure you I'll forward it to my teammates immediately

Norm, there are three possibilities

1.- It's Symphonic (Or Xover or Neo or whatever), then we accept them and add the band ASAP (We usually do this in the first 48 hours), wee need at least 2 positive votes and one abstention. We ask you, the band (if it exists) or any member idf they can write the bio, if not, we manage.

2.- It's Prog but doesn't fit in our genre, then we notify IMMEDIATELY the other team we believe the band fits better.

3.- It's not Prog so we notify in the original thread or the member, and if some Special Collaborator believes so, he notifies the Administrators for Prog Related.

In the case of Chetarca, they were rejected by XOVER, of course by SYMPHONIC (even when we didn't need to do it when Xover already rejected them and didn't send them to us).

I took the case personally and sent a PM to the Administrators for PR, but they decide and we respect their opinion.

If you have a suggestion, you can send me a copy of it to my PM.

Iván

Well, I was just about to suggest Chetarca as a missing piece of the Aussie prog jigsaw puzzle, given all the Aussie artists that have been added in my hiatus...and I stumble across this thread.

I must admit the failure for Chetarca to get a guernsey in either Crossover or Symph surprises me. I have made a point of listening the Chetarca again right now and, other than the use of harmonica here and there (as part of Chetarca's eclecticism), I hear striking similarities to ELP, especially in parts of 'The Oceanic Suite' opus.

To dismiss Chetarca based on the bluesy-ness of a short song like 'Another Day' and the use of some harmonica as part of their soundscape seems a bit like suggesting we dismiss ELP from Symph based on 'Benny the Bouncer' or 'Jeremy Bender'. Is that how I am reading the preceding discussions?

Chetarca's work is not broad -  just the one album - however it is mostly progressive from where I sit. Personally I would have no qualms whatsoever including Chetarca in Symphonic...and would do so before Crossover.

IMO a rethink is really required here Smile

^ Agreed. Here they were given the "AOR" tag of all things, which to me is almost laughable.

To sum up, we have a band that could at least easily fit in crossover, but because of the way things have turned out with the genre votes (a big fat negs from all teams involved), we have a band that should be here, but probably won't be due to procedure.

Chetarca was rejected by Symph and Crossover (In the case of Symph it was unanimous).

Please, it was rejected by the Prog Related Team.

I sent them to PR, I sponsored them, but the Admins (Who's opinion I respect), considered that they were not PR.

Can't do more

I think we've had this discussion before. Yeah, I realised there's no way.

We'll just have to wait for them to release a new album...

As we would expect, the likelihood of a 70's band releasing a new album is extremely slim.

The Prognossis AOR reference is plain wrong. I wonder it that could be a mistake on that site?

Let us Google Chetarca and progressive to see what things come up (PA excluded)...

http://www.last.fm/music/Chetarca

http://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/chetarca/chetarca/

http://www.alexgitlin.com/npp/chetarca.htm

http://cdreissuewishlist.blogspot.com.au/2010/06/chetarca-australia.html

http://mutant-sounds.blogspot.com.au/2007/10/chetarca-stlp1975australia.html

http://www.gemm.com/store/PROGRESSIVEROCK/item/CHETARCA-CHETERCA-LP/1422822468

Just a few of examples all citing that Chetarca fits into the progressive rock category. How many more do we need before something gives way?

Is it time for PA to be progressive and be the first site to grant Chetarca the recognition deserved?

Not in Symphonic, we already checked them and twice

Plus at least the three quotes you cite, are exact, all copied from the same source and the other 2 are ambiguous to say the less.

They were rejected by three teams and Prog Related, please accept it, they won't be here
