Ok, I'm hooked. I finally got around to listening to Uzed and I absolutely love it. What's the next step? Which album should I pick up next?

Well so far here's my order:
1. Uzed 2. Clivages 3. Heresie Those are the only ones I've heard so far, but I love them all anyway. There's probably a better order, but I'm loving these so much I doubt it would matter for you. |

I like the debut most (love the first three in particular), but you might prefer Heatwave (also good, I think and follows Uzed's change in direction). At this time I think I'm inclined to recommend that you try Ceux du Dehors, the album that preceded Uzed, before the earlier Heresie. I like Heresie muchly, but I suspect that it would be more of a challenge. Still, the self-titled debut is great, and is my favourite, and I'm not about to not mention that.

I got my first two Uzed and Implosion a couple of days ago. Very pleased.

I only own Uzed and their debut. From those I like their debut the most (actually I consider it to be a 4,5 or maybe even 5 star album), so I can definitely recommend that.

If you want to get a concentrated idea of the band's output in the mid-Eighties, you could do worse than get Relaps, the live album recently released by Cuneiform Records. In case you're interested, here's my review of it:
http://www.progressor.net/review/univers_zero_2009.html The band's more recent output is also worth checking out. Both Implosion and Clivages are excellent, and have received rather high ratings both here and elsewhere. UZ will be playing here in DC at the end of September, a week after Magma, with Miriodor as an opening act. It will definitely be a gig to remember! Edited by Raff - August 11 2010 at 06:25 |

Is the debut their best album as I always heard Uzed was the best?

The debut and Heresie is where it's at. A bit different than Uzed, but the dark ominous mood of those two albums is what gets me the most. |

Uzed is the favourite of people who aren't big fans of the band and of chamber prog in general the debut seems to be far more popular among, well, us dorks |

I'm a huge UZ and chamber rock fan, and Uzed is my favourite. I like the sound and darkness of the earlier albums; I just think Uzed is the superior composition. That said, I think their first five albums are all 4 stars or higher, so you can't really go wrong.
To the OP, I would get Ceux Du Dehors. Then, if you want more of that acoustic sound/style, get the debut and Heresie; if you want something more in the vein of Uzed, go with Heatwave and Clivages.

I say get the rest in chronological order. That way you make sure you don't miss any of them, and you get a better idea of how their sound evolved in time.

Rhythmix is my favorite. It has the mentality of Ceux De Hors but more subtle and that is what I personally enjoy about the errie....the subtle. Ceux De Hors to me is the overall best in composition and just as errie as Heresie but, without the abundance of disturbing nature. The Hard Quest I was disappointed in. Crawling Wind has some truly vital tracks for you to hear. It was originally an EP that I owned back in the 80's. On the cd version there are additional tracks. The debut title is most enjoyable when you are sitting in a cottage with a cup of coffee at the kitchen table and open window with view of landscape. Uzed is another excellent choice. I personally don't enjoy Heresie. The live cd is very good and I have yet to hear Clivages. I think Implosion is hit and miss when compared to how grand Rhythmix, Ceux De Hors, and Uzed are. |

Yep. I'd recommend Uzed more to the average progger, but the debut more to "chamber prog" appreciators. Best is subjective. I, along with various others, find the debut best for me. |

I think best at PA often equals most accessible. I want to note that notions of best do tend to get overused and abused by many here, and most popular does not equal best. Edited by Logan - August 12 2010 at 12:31 |
