Its a shame i cant vote in the poll.   Savatage are my favourite progressive metal band.   Albums in order, best to least best, would go like this (im making Streets A Rock Opera and Fight from the Rock be exempt, as i dont own them)

Handfull of Rain
Poets and Madman
Wake of Magellin
Edge of Thorns
Hall of the mountin King, Power of the Night and Dead Winter Dead in joint 5th
Gutter Ballet
Sirens and Dungeons are Calling in joint last

Some samples (sorry for mostly ballads, their videos aren't so good):

Title track from Hall of the Mountain King (their first video to get any decent airplay @ MTV, if I recall correctly)

title track from Gutter Ballet:

Jesus Saves, from Streets

title track from Handful of Rain (reminds of Pink Floyd)

Well, tecnically they were, up untill Hall of the Mountain King, but even so their kind of power metal wasn't really retarded. It is actually closer to Flotsam & Jetsam than actually power metal, but starting on Hall they started to slowly become more and more progressive with each album and less and less "power".

If you are going to check them, try anything from Streets onwards, with the exception of Edge of Thorns, which IS retarded power metal. Gutter Ballet is also pretty good.

Overall, Edge of Thorns. Streets has higher highs, but a lot of songs I could do without. Edge is at least 80% gold. Next would be Hall of the Mountain King if it actually was recorded well.

Wake of Magellan. Their best album without a shadow of doubt.

I've only heard their early stuff back in the eighties since I had a metalhead friend (for me neither metalhead nor proghead etc. is pejorative)  I'm not familiar with any post 80's Savatage albums. EDIT: I was surprised to see it in the archives, but I was, and still am, only familiar with the early material.

I have a soft spot for this band, I love everything they released over the years with a plus on Streets and Edge of thorns.

Last qualification poll! somewhere around September the PMAT will start. No vote for me, once again.
