Metallica. Although Maiden have been consistently great throughout their career I feel that Metallica's best is better than Maiden's best, slightly.

But the best thing about these two giants is that each will be seen by me in the coming six months.

UP THE IRONS!!

Not a fan of Metallica or Maiden but Metallica isn't nearly as boring as Iron Maiden.

Maiden for me!
Metallica were a great band untill The Black Album..There are some songs (few) that i can still listen after that period (one of the best they´ve ever done is Low Man´s Lyrics), but i rarely do so.

and resentment rides high but emotions won´t grow
And we´re changing our ways, taking different roads..
Then love, love will tear us apart again.."

Another tough call. But I go with Maiden because they are more progressive I feel and since we're on PA and not on a metal forum I go with the British giants this time ..
Besides that I have a slight preference for IM. But then again when I think of Metallica's San Diego DVD ... it's really hard to say.

Think About It For a Minute or a Day or a Year , what did they brought both to our culture , the Progressive Rock Culture !!? in my Opinion , they're both good , but they brought nothing , nothing at all , except some Imitations from previous scenes , that makes no difference in our Wide Archive /   Budgie , Dust , Blue Oysters , Manfred Mann , Purples , Uriah Heep & Black Sabbath did what they're Doing now in better Shape /

Metallica -> big influence for Dream Theater
Iron Maiden -> big influence for Queensr˙che and Fates Warning

Dream Theater's also huge Iron Maiden fans. They covered The Number of the Beast in its entirety and released a live album of the performance.

I really like both, but have to go Iron Maiden because they've simply put out more music that I like.

Iron Maiden. They're more consistent with their music and their music has much more of a progressive feel than Metallica's music.

Would you like some Bailey's?

^^^ Same here. Vote goes to Maiden, although I've not heard the new album.

I can take or leave Metallica. I lost interest in late 80's. I did see them on the Master of Puppets tour though, and they were very good.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

An interesting comparison, never heard that before. What do they have in common exactly?

Metallica, just like Slayer, were huge fans of punk, besides their love of NWOBM bands. And thrash metal is actually the combination of punk and heavy metal.

I've never been able to sit still long enough when listening to Maiden to really understand what is supposed to be so great about them. My latest ex-girlfriend loved them and Dream Theater. I could at least agree with half of her opinion.
