I like psychedelia and I think that only the Nektar's debut can compete with Hawkwind so I vote for the second

I prefer Nektar. They have less albums, but almost every Nektar release is strong (not only because of melodic or symphonic element, but they have great psychedelic jazz fusion works as well). Hawkwind have plenty of albums, but only some of them are really interesting

Nektar. Less output, more quality and consistency.

I agree with that. I like NEKTAR's first two but after that they went downhill fast.Hawkwind has had a lot of excellent albums over the years.

Hawkwind is too psychedelic, having worse singer and guitars, using repetitive rhytms often. Nektar is more melodic, approximating to Symphonic Prog, having certainly better musicians than Hawkwind. |
Lets start a poll about two Pschedelic / Space Rock bands and then accuse one of those bands of being 'too psychedelic' . Then sl*g them off for havin 'worse' singers and guitars and basically being crap musicians. Not a biased poll at all then?
Anyway Hawkwind- love the repetitive rhythms under which lies a great deal of complexity. The best Space Rock ever by anyone. But obviously not Symphonic enough.
Nektar - who are they anyway?

I don´t mean that´s a biased poll. Leastways, until you ´ve started to warn on it.

Here's a motto that has been used:Truth is Stranger than Fiction
And
It's a motto i go by,that's why i loved the Star Wars,Lord of the Rings,and Matrix movies
And
That's why i'm going with Nektar on this one.
I think their songwriting more deeper and has substance.
Their songs and lyrics talk about cutting-edge matters that are going on in the world
And
Also i'm more emotionally movied and feel more a connection to Nektar's music

I've revived this old poll.I voted for Hawkwind, but i'm confused that Hawkwind could be beaten in space rock poll. I remember buying a record collection once that had a couple of Nektar LPs in it.I listen to them both & though hmmm not bad,but i needed cash at the time & ebayed both Nektar LPs.
Maybe a few of you Nektar fans could tell me what i'm missing out on here?Maybe i should give Nektar another & closer listen sometime.

I've taken a break from trying to like Hawkwind. I'll try again later. The only reason I do try is because of their association with Michael Moorcock. I also never really understood how they could be designated as Space Rock.

I only like Hawkwind when Calvert took charge. 1976-80. Levitation was pretty cool even though Calvert had left.
I only have one Nektar album-Tab in the ocean and it was pretty mediocre
|
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

The Hawks. One my my top five bands, along with Gong, Amon Düül 2, Magma and Guru Guru.
Nektar's "Recycled" is a great album, but "Remember the Future" was never fully to my liking; the way the line "Remember the Future" is sung is extremely annoying. And this line appears several times.
