OK my cat Squeaky has recently started coming into the music room and messing with the ends of the three bass strings on my beat up old Yamaha classical guitar. I'm talking about the ends where the strings are tied off at the bridge. I didn't cut them too neat. But rather than rubbing on them, she bites at the ends. If I improvise something on it in her cat voice range, she really seems to like it.
So for those of you that play or even if you just play recorded music, do you have any interesting pets/music interactions to share? It seems like this has been brought up before but I couldn't locate it and I'm not sure if Tech Talk is the best place to do this thread... I quit playing. She's still in the room and now facing away from me but not messing with the guitar. ![]() I have a cat audience apparently. Edited by Slartibartfast - September 17 2010 at 21:35 |

Our Tunces looked just like Toonces, but my wife hated the latter spelling. Cat's middle name became Alkie, btw. |

Thanks for the Toonces clip.
![]() Long time, no see. Wait a second, you had a cat with a middle name (which presumes a last name)???? I'm afraid this thread may be moved to the fun section, but I was being totally serious. We have a lot of cat lovers on this site and some musicians and I am curious about how your animals react. The dog in that Pink Floyd video comes to mind... I remember my friend's cat reacting strongly to some Jimi Hendrix, but then most things react strongly to Hendrix

My cats do like to walk up and down ( or is it for them down and up) the keyboard. I rarely leave the guitar out of it's case, which is impenetrable, which now I've said that one of those beasts will figure a way to open it up and get in and puke on it or some such. Musically, they have their preferences. I have no idea what their hearing range is, but they do seem to enjoy bass heavy music. I suppose that's a virtual petting, when the fur is being moved. And they seem enjoy prog or I suppose they enjoy evem Mouth and MacNeil if they are sitting on the lap and that's what's playing. Lulu is enjoying Bloody Well Right even now. Max prefers Formentera Lady.
They are more or less lovable idiots: Max, Fritz, Lulu, Shadow aka The Shadman. No I'm not an old lady who collects cats, but my wife is getting there, and she ain't around tonight and I have the music cranking

When I used to have Hammond lessons, I could guarantee just as I was playing one of my homework pieces to the tutor, one of my cats would decide to join in by walking up & down the keys...
...still, helped to hide the odd bum note

My cat Sparky appears to love the voice of Ian Gillan for some reason. He also displays a fondness for Arthur Brown and somewhat dissapointingly, the singer in Mrs L's favourite band (Smokie

Contrary to all of you, cat lovers... my dog react when I put some Alux Nahual records on the stereo. Hi likes the tom drums and the progressive parts...
Then, I don't aloud any other living creature to play with my instruments... so, no pet interactions with my stuff...

Cat lovers, I warn you. If you have amps with covered with carpet, them kittehs probably will use it as a scratch post.
BTW, my cousin's 17 year old cat or something pissed on his amp with that carpet cover, the smell just won't leave even after using thousands of chemichal stuff.

My animals go absolutely nuts when I play harmonica. Specifically my dog, but also my cats.

If I ever would pluck a string on my guitar or play a key on the piano loudly, one of my cats would start meowing oddly and making these weird clicking noises.

If they make weird clicking noises they might not be cats but aliens. ![]() If they start making beep beep noises, run away as fast as you can. Edited by Slartibartfast - November 03 2010 at 20:37 |
