What's yours?
The Whirlwind is my vote. One of the closest things to musical perfection I've ever heard. Edited by andyman1125 - October 04 2010 at 20:09 |

Bought all three of these upon release date, love them all dearly, they are all 5-star albums to me. My favourite is The Whirlwind!

The Whirlwind for me; it just seems the more cohesive and easy to listen to of the three:) Also, Pete Trewavas kicks ass on bass on the Whirlwind, easily his best work!

I like all 3 albums alot. If I had to rate them - SMPTe, Whirlwind, Bridge - but it's a very close call. |

I'm undecided between the first two. I didn't like the whirlwind in the same way.

I enjoyed the Whirlwind but it's the only Transatlantic album I've heard. The musical ideas are original enough but the entire presentation of same is tantamount to an affectionate homage to classic early 70's Prog IMO
It does have some legitimate claims to symphonic status however i.e. the Whirlwind suite is seeded from a main theme which is developed into and through the 'song' sections and recapitulated towards the piece's conclusion. Not many bands are capable of this formal discipline apart from say ELP at their peak. |

When first released I didn't like The Whirlwind quite as much as the other two but it has steadily grown on me more and more over time. That for me is a good sign of a true classic album. The band produced a sensational rendition of the album when I saw them earlier this year and that was the highlight of a truly outstanding set.
Overall I would now place The Whirlwind some way above the other two Transatlantic albums. There is a great variety of light and shade yet the full 77 minutes just fits together so well. It's an outstanding 5-star album for me and easily gets my vote.

Bridge Across Forever for two very simple reasons: Duel With The Devil, and the epic to end all epics, Stranger In Your Soul. I have to admit that i have hardly listened to any of the studio albums. I think all of their stuff sounds way better on Live In Europe. Looking forward to the new dvd, and finally hearing if The Whirlwind is a true masterpiece or not (it's okay on the album, but i really find they're a completely different band live). |

I only heard Bridge Across Forever, and I am planning to listening to The Whirlwind, which I borrowed from a friend, so I cannot give a vote yet.
