If The Park and Free Me are ballads, then I´m a King of USA. I´d vote for July Morning, one of the best ballads which Uriah Heep ever recorded. But it isn´t here regrettably. So beg your pardon.

July Morning is an epic not a simple ballad, so beg your pardon too

I don´t care about oficial releases, especially from Amazon. Their local "specialists" probably listen to Uriah Heep in fast train. The Park is ballad of course, I appologize you for my mistake. On the other hand, Free Me isn´t ballad at all due to its tempo and mood.

So, more ballads are missing here. What about e.g. Circle Of Hands, Wonderworld?

A lot of people are suprised when they discover just how good Heep were at ballads. I Picked "Come away Melinda" from the debut album.

Looks like we have differing ideas of what a "ballad" is. No way I'd agree with Gandalff about "July morning" which is one of the bands best prog songs, but from the list I would not have included "Circus", "Shadows and the wind" and definitely not "Lady in black" which is a rousing anthem.

Yes, there is still some misunderstanding what a ballad means. A ballad is not necessarily about whether the piece is slow or middle or fast tempo. If you don't know what you talk about, check Grove Musical Dictionary or listen to Chopin, Liszt, Grieg etc to see the roots of the musical form ballad. By the way, I' m fed up with incorrect criticism, if you don't like the poll, don't vote, if you know something which is not on the list, mention it. That's it. Quit.

Many from her are good to great but no one stands as great as Rain, one of the best ballads ever written by any band. Byron's voice is absolutly stunning.

I also first thought of July Morning but from the list I like The Wizard which I never thought of as a ballad. Guess I need to dust off the dikshunairy.

Room for all here Lynx, including those who "don't know what you talk about".

I think the accepted use of the term "ballad" has changed over the years, particularly as it refers to rock and pop.

Lady In Black.  Awesome and stirring, with some genuinely impressive lyrics.  That sways the vote for me.
