Has any of You seen this show already? Or is it a one-off event? He's going to play with Polish musicians, so...

Seems like he's going to play music from the Deep Purple album, isn't he? I don't know much of Deep Purple music and never heard any of his solo works, to be honest... Embarrassed

I'm going to see it with my parents. My father really wanted to go when I told him about it. He's an old progger. And he even offered to buy me a ticket, so why not?

And the tickets are already bought!

Concerto for Group and Orchestra isn't held in great esteem by a lot of people but I've always thought it was an interesting and often successful experiment. Should be a memorable event - enjoy it!

GO! You won't regret it, well at least I wouldn't haha.

The 'First Movement' is worth seeing, I can assure you, one of my all-time favorite compositions. The two other movements are rather meh though, at least for me.

Hope you enjoy it! I wish he came here to Argentina.

BTW: yes, the Concerto was released with Deep Purple but it was entirely written by Jon Lord. If you're curious of his solo work, Windows for me is the best bet. If you want to listen to the Concerto, I'd recommend you the 1999 live version with Steve Morse on board called 'Live at the Royal Albert Hall', much better sound and in my opinion, the comositions don't sound raw as the 1969 version.

Good choice, Bartek.

I saw similar concert last year and liked it a lot. Jon Lord plays with local orchestras and artists (I think it's cheaper than touring with the same orchestra), but music is well rehearsed and played.

Moscow concert consisted of 2 parts:
1. "Concerto" itself. I always thought it is an uneven work - there are orchestral parts and rock parts without organic connection between them. That live performance made me change my mind.
2. Songs and compositions from Jon solo albums and Deep Purple hits, both with the orchestra. In our concert some Hungarian DP cover band helped Jon. I liked this part too, all musicians played with passion, Jon's Hammond work is impressive as usual.

I think you'll see something similar. Sala Kongresowa is a good venue, so I hope the sound will be great and you and your father won't be disappointed.
Who are you and who am I to say we know the reason why... (D. Gilmour)

Just noticed it and saw, that he played at my place already in January this year and I missed it Cry.
I can only say, that Jon Lord is accompanied by Steve Balsamo, who I only know from his superb interpretation of Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar, thus he walks in the paths of Ian Gillan.

Seesm he has a few more gigs on his website http://jonlord.org/, although the one planned for yesterday in Prague was cancelled.
