Topic: A nice surprise Posted: October 26 2010 at 21:23 |
Here is a brief list of artists that I generally find unappealing even though I've given their careers quite a few chances. Fortunately, I did manage to find one ray of sunlight which I now offer for your consideration. 1. Pick you favorite release out of the bunch 2. Mention how many out of these releases sound familiar to you 3. Give me other suggestions for a potential nice surprise album experience!

Choirs of the Eye, even though I highly resent the fact that you find Kayo Dot unappealing
Haven't heard the Saga or Magnum albums (never even heard OF those bands)

Triumvirat - Illusions On A Double Dimple = only one i have heard. and it was good but too poopy.
have you hearrd Fromuz, a fusionesque band from Uzbekistan? 2008's Overlook. if you find it unappealing I'll give you a public apology.

I know three, listed here in my order of preference:
Alan Parsons Project - I Robot.
Triumvirat - Illusions on a Double Dimple.
Mastodon - Crack the Skye.
I strongly suggest Last Autumn's Dream by Jade Warrior. Check out my review on it to see why.

I know only two of them, but nevertheless the choice is obvious: Illusions on a Double Dimple.
For another nice surprice I would suggest an album by Iona (The Book of Kells, Journey into the Morn).

I don't know any of them but I'm planning to approach Kayo Dot. I can't find anything interesting in Alan Parson. Not bad but nothing special.
I have been surprised by the Armenian "Oaksenham", but I remember somebody in a post saying that he finds them poor.

I know Mastodon's, Kayo Dot's and BtBaM's. All of which are, IMO their best albums to date. It's gotta be Mastodon though.
You know what's a nice little suprise album? Anything post The Bends by Radiohead. They're all different yet similar.

Triumvirat. I need to get this on CD. Been too long since I've heard it on vinyl.

I actually saw their performance here in Stockholm only a week ago and they were great! I've been listening to their albums for quite some time now and most of them are pretty good, so it's not really much of a surprise for me.
