Just so you all know: Radiohead is my favorite band ever but the other bands are almost as awesome.

Worthless modern band vs. Pink Floyd vs.Worthless modern band vs. Worthless modern band
Haha, rare is the occasion where I cast my lot with the floyd. When its them against post-89 trash, the floyd wins. |

Question: Do you consider them worthless because they are modern or simply worthless or is this just an attempt at trolling?

I tell it like it is. Thirty six hundred plus posts, and not a single one is in favour of post-89 buffoonery.
Say "NO!" to new music and say "YES!" to pre-89 heroes! |

Pink Floyd of course.
Difficult to compare an historical prog leader band and ... Tool, Opeth and even Radiohead. |

Walter plays a bit of a character here on the boards. Don't let him get to you.

Oh, and I voted Floyd, of course. Tool comes closely after.

That's true
I should have realized that there would be a Floyd bias before I made the poll. Oh well. |

^ It's not really a bias. Pink Floyd just have a larger influence and following for obvious reasons.

You're right but I was kinda hoping that more people would consider the modern bands on their own terms rather than automatically choose Floyd because it influenced all the rest. I just wanted to avoid the whole "Old bands are better because they're old and new bands are worse because they're new" type of logic but yeah, I see your point.

Well I'm not pretending to know what the motive is behind every person who votes for Floyd but the fact that they are currently rating quite high in comparison with the other bands suggests there is some kind of bias and I think, as you said, that it's natural on a forum like this. But of course I have my own bias so I'll stop with this and get on with actually talking about the music

I think Tool and Opeth are influenced to a fairly large degree by Floyd. I admit the connection to Radiohead is a little hazier but people often compare Radiohead to Floyd (specifically OK Computer to DSOTM).

OK computer is a quite good album for me, but to be honest I can't see a relation. I've listened to Tool for the first time in my life just yesterday and again I don't see this influence but in this case I may be wrong.
