Personally, I like them equally. What's your preference?

I'm not that fond of any of those bands, but I know that I can count Dream Theater out instantly, because DT is simply not... enjoyable.
Rush vs. Iron Maiden is a bit harder tho... Rush got one good album (2112) and Iron Maiden got some cool hits. But I think I'll go with Iron Maiden even thought they're not really prog, just because I like playing their songs with my ensemble group.

Rush is the only one of these I've ever been into, and I particularly like Caress of Steel.

Rush, for their power, originality and variation over time. Iron Maiden comes second, for similar reasons, but with a bit lower score on variation, and DT comes last, because I couldn't really enjoy them anymore after Images & Words. As for the variation remark: with Rush, I can fool people into thinking Rush 1973 is a different band from Rush 198+, Iron Maiden always sounds like, well... Iron Maiden.

Rush by a landslide.
I don't like Iron Maiden at all (heresy, I know).
And I only really like a few Dream Theater albums -- most of their stuff is too bombastic too much of the time.
I'm not fond of Geddy Lee's voice but Rush has enough great instrumental passages that it more than makes up for it.

Rush - for everything they do and have done and for such a long time. I've only 2 DT albums (Metropolis:Scenes From A Nights Memory and Octavarium.) Very detailed and powerful music as well. Bound to get more in time. Miaiden have some grat albums. I usually think Hallowe'd Be thy Name and suchlike epic material is my sort of thing. RUn To The Hills and Number Of The Beatds have that Top 20 pop-metal feel that put me off a bit. Love the first album and recently realised i've not heard any of their albums for about 20 years now. Probably time I updated my knowledge a bit.
James La Brie is probably the best singer of the lot. Iron Maiden have a 3 axe attack... Rush have the most musical firepower that any trio could ever have... DT do have a great catalogue of complex and interesting music, as do the others. All three are great bands. But... it's Rush for me. I read a bit how people feel uninvolved with their music and wonder why (on PA.) I also read something on a metal site which suggested that DT should write according tio their audience's knowledge. Which went on to say that mentioning Confucious in their music was lost on kids today. They should write about a God they can relate (?) to... Yoda. Seriously... |

Pre-1990: Rush, Post-1990: Dream Theater. I voted for Rush because I rank them higher.
