Thought some people here might be interested in this- remember the online campaign last year that saw Rage Against The Machine's Killing In The Name Of successfully defeat Simon Cowell's latest saccharine pop single on the Christmas charts?
They're doing it again this year with John Cage's 4'33, which if you didn't know, is a "song" of absolute silence.
Will be hilarious if this comes off.

Pre-89 composer > post-89 foolishness (be it loud lefties or plastic corpo-weasels).

Do you think that Mr. Cage would get pissed if I illegally downloaded this song of silence?

I would be more than happy if I could download silence... Speaking of which, thanks to the title of the article I have Depeche Mode stuck in my head. Edited by A Person - November 16 2010 at 14:44 |

Wait, you can buy an MP3 of 4'33"? That's remarkably pointless, but forcing the radio to go silent for four minutes is absolutely brilliant.

Nice. This one's unlikely to win, though, as I expect people will be less willing to buy their four minutes of silence.

Having to purchase silence? What a paradox. I'm pretty sure that's one of the horseman of the apocalypse.

And if you did download it, how would you know if it was the original or a ripoff K-Tel cover version? |

Silence is still too safe. I'd love if next year they choose something totally horrible.
Cage all the way though...

Did anybody read the guy's reaction to being booted off last year? He was shocked by the thought of sweet old grandmothers listening to that in their rooms. I don't know if he was playing for the media or what, but I hope that he doesn't actually think all music made should appeal to 75 year old women...

I'm pretty sure that some 75 years old women would enjoy Merzbow: maybe Pauline Oliveros would be interested.

4'33" isn't a work of silence...
