I have yet to find any NB album other than OM that I like, but OM is my favourite metal album so NB wins. Enslaved is excellent though.

Wonderful poll!Congratulations!I voted Enslaved(it's my 3rd favorite band).I love post black metal.Negura bunget is a great band.I like more their lyrical themes than Enslaved(I don't interest me so much the lyrics about mythology). But they sing in romanian(unfortunately,I don't speak). Do you know a site with lyrics of Negura bunget that can be translated? |

For me it's Negura Bunget. Of their highest rated albums, OM > Isa, and I really dig the dark folksy stuff they do over Enslaved's intermittent groove.

Enslaved, easily. Negura Bunget is interesting, but the string of Enslaved's 11 albums from 'Vikingligr' to 'Axioma...' is really amazing. Almost unprecedented in terms of length, depth and that whole "something-new-every-album" kind of thing.....at least in the Norwegian black and post-black metal world...

This is very difficult. I like Om more than any Enslaved album and yet Enslaved have SO MANY GREAT albums where as NB only really has one.

Although I'm a fan of NB, I must say my favourite is Enslaved, at least they are much more closer to the prog in common sense as the 70's prog. But NB has their unique dark and atmospheric sound that makes them quite perfect.

Enslaved cos they are consistent in releasing great albums and ability to change the sound, to progress with every new album, on the other side i can't think of other album from Negura besides OM that left me speechless

I can see that; it's more accessible IMO and the stuff that I don't like comes from the fact that I'm Romanian and I understand the lyrics and what they're trying to go at conceptually. |

Well, it seems to me that the guy that was left as the leader of the band (not the creative force before the split, at all) understood that a lot of the success came from the integration of the mysterious bits of traditional folk culture with the metal music, but he doesn't know how to do it. The lyrics are a flat, in your face attempt at peasant poetry, lacking any finesse. It's so obvious that they're trying hard and overdoing it that it's embarassing. The folk music elements are also stuffed there all over the place just to have them, a show-off lacking structural logic. Overall it's very artificial and forced. It's still good, like I said, but it's a pale imitation of what was before. Edited by harmonium.ro - January 19 2011 at 20:12 |
