So, it has thus become a game between Cambridge United and Everton?

^ I don't know. It's been a long time since I've watched a soccer match, let alone one that has both teams none of which are Russian.

Well I see your point, but to my ears at least, the Beatles "experimental period" was mostly just poppy songs dressed up with weird sound-effects and non-rock instruments, many times courtesy of their producer. They never went as far as something like Ummagumma or the Atom Heart Mother suite. I still love the Beatles though. Edited by MrMagoo99581 - May 09 2012 at 10:23 |

For a poll like this on this site, The Beatles are perhaps way too mainstream popular. Like it or lump it, ANY band is nowhere near The Beatle's fame and influence - there wouldn't even be such a thing as a rock band but for The Beatles. Of course, that doesn't mean we HAVE to like them, just acknowledge who they are.

Both different bands but what the Beatles have over in Pink Floyd by a wide margin IMO. The Beatles combined form and content in articulate, imaginative, immediate pieces that made them an influence on just about everybody in rock/pop music and even extending to other genres. They pulled off "I Am The Walrus", "Revolution", and "Martha My Dear" in one year. Syd Barrett was listenting really studying to Revolver the loops, altered vocals, reversed tapes, proto sampling elements, drones, cut up lyrics for one on "Tomorrow Never Knows" was basically the complete kit for what Pink Floyd would use for their sound.

I think that the Beatles accomplished much more things than Pink Floyd did. The Beatles changed the history of music forever. I think without the Beatles, progressive rock wouldn't exist. And I think without the Fab Four, music would be like s**t. Floyd was also great, but nobody can reach The Beatles. These guys were not just a band, they did everything before any other band. They will never be replaced. So, my vote goes to the Fab Four.

Pink Floyd by approximately 2567900000 nautical miles, the distance between the abbey street and that dark side of the satellite.

^^^ Um, if we did measure it only in terms of influence and importance to music, Beatles would still beat the daylights out of Pink Floyd. I don't know why this question cannot be decided only on account of personal preference, though. If somebody likes PF more than Beatles, he likes it, that's all. Nothing to justify there.

This comparison raises some interesting issues:
As far as creating popular music that has become an acknowledged reference point across all secular cultures, it's more than likely that anyone > 40 years old can name all four Beatles and sing several of their songs: this is NOT true of Floyd. However, DSotM is probably on a par with anything the Beatles created (purely in terms of becoming a cultural artefact recognised at a global level etc). BTW They both had crap drummers ![]() |

I love one Beatles album (Abbey Road) and like two more.
I love at least 5 Pink Floyd albums. No matter how influential The Beatles are, I go the The Floyd Iván

I can't care less for Rolling Stones Magazine, as a fact I consider an honor being ignored by RS
I care even less for Biillboard than about Rolling Stones Magazinne
I care even less for sales than about Billboard ![]()
Most of the bands I love are unknown by 90% of the people.
Well...The Beatles songs lasted an average 3.00 minutes Pink Floyd has much longer songs as a fact they have 13 songs over 10 minutes with a total time of 3 hours 16 minutes, 48 seconds (Only that 11 songs represent an average of 65 Beatles songs. )...Not counting the 48 Pink Floyd songs between 5:01 and 9:49 minutes.I prefer longer songs (5 - 6 minutes average) BTW: Pink Floyd's songwriting career didn't lasted 31 years, only 27, their last studio album was released in 1994. In other words, statistics mean very little when talking about music. Iván Edited by Ivan_Melgar_M - June 16 2012 at 02:11 |

I have a hammer and some nails I can give you, you can seal yourself in your own coffin. I probably can count on one hand how many people on this site care about Rolling Stone or Billbord...........
Those are bold comments in red.......ouch!
Ivan did a fine job disecting your list. Give me any obscure album over any beatles album and I will be happy...I prefer not to follow the masses. Edited by Catcher10 - June 16 2012 at 02:34 |
