Wowee.

f**k me.

Pardon the language there but I didn't know how else to put it without watering down my opinion.

Why are these guys not gigantic? They've only done one album (a second is coming sometime apparently) but they're a "supergroup" (depends how much you care about members of Spastic Ink and Cannibal Corpse and so on) and that album, The Machinations Of Dementia, is a frigging monster. 5/5 best instrumental prog metal album ever level stuff. Some parts of it make Atheist look quaint. Full of variety and great melodic rhthymic play, I don't know why people weren't running through the streets calling its name in 2007 when it came out. If you've even the slightest interest in powerful metal instrumental work you should get it yesterday.

They ARE gigantic... As gigantic as they can be in their very small niche.

Amazing!  Just checked them out on YouTube, thanks for the recommendation - I'll be picking that one up soon!
Everyone knows rock attained perfection in 1974, it's a scientific fact.

Try Spastik Ink. They're less heavy, but then, what isn't less heavy when compared to Blotted Science? LOL

^^^I agree.

Also give 7 For 4 a listen. Not as heavy as Blotted Science, more a prog/metal jazz-fusion album.

Canvas Solaris - A bit more melodic with experimental moments
Behold...the Arctopus - Very technical, non-conformist, same drummer as Blotted Science
1980 - much jazzier, but instrumental and heavy as hell

Checking out 7 For 4 right now on YouTube - excellent stuff!  Loving the jazz approach they took.

Ahh Blotted Science.  The only metal I frequently listen to.  That album couldn't be more badass.
Which of you to gain me, tell, will risk uncertain pains of hell?
I will not forgive you if you will not take the chance.

This is probably going to horrify anyone who cares but I've long been going on about how rap is actually a good genre yet most rap artists, even alternative ones, are too conservative and don't really push their art form. Someone told me to make an example of what I'm talking about.

To this end I am currently working on a rap song which uses Synaptic Plasticity as the backing track.

It's an extremely complicated piece to record it's really pushing me to the limit lyrically and flow-wise and will probably take ages to complete if I even ever do but you'll hear from me if/when I do...

Love to hear it - I've been checking out alot of the Stones Throw catalog recently.  Also Blueprint, Jazz Liberatorz, and Blue Scholars.  I'm finding the directons they're taking very interesting.

I really enjoy their stuff.  I also really like Keith Merrow, Canvas Solaris, Uneven Structure, Vildhjarta, Spastic Ink, Obscura, I think someone already mentioned ...Behold The Arctopus, etc.  Damn there is so much good stuff our there like these guys.  Enjoy.
