Rush:

More consistent
Better musicians
Better song writers
A more interesting and varied back catalogue

Nothing against Sabs but really there's no contest.

This is exactly how I feel. I Can't compare or choose, both are great bands on their own right.

I prefer Sabbath overall to Rush.  I agree with Blacksword that throughout their careers, Rush has been more consistent with the other points he makes, but Sabbath has written some great songs with both excellent lyrics and musicianship.  At present, Rush is still an ongoing venture, while Sabbath is a voice of the past, but as I always say, good music is good music, no matter when it was created.
The world of sound is certainly capable of infinite variety and, were our sense developed, of infinite extensions. -- George Santayana, "The Sense of Beauty"

I would have added more, but it would have been annoying.

^ "Siral Architect" is one of my old faves.  Great track.

I like Rush, but Black Sabbath for sure does it more for me.  My Rush lovin' friend used to laugh at me for liking Sabbath.

I like em from their grittiest and hardest rockin' pieces to the smoother mellower ones:

And Spinal Tap isn't the only band with a Stonehenge track I like:

Sabbath, I still can't understand what's so good with Rush. I've tried to enjoy to them so many times I can't no longer count the attempts, but everytime I get amazed how they can be put it the same category as bands like King Crimson and Yes.
