Topic: Which term annoys you the most? Posted: December 25 2010 at 08:05 |
Four of the most lame terms used in reviews, polls, and commentaries, etc. on this site.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I HATE the term "overrated" AND the term "underrated". The first one smells like snobbish gibbering, the second one smells like a call to necrophilia and/or coprophilia: "Hey, I found some records in a garbage can - they're forgotten gems!" "Underrated" makes me think of these announcements for reissues of albums of the 2000's already described as "classics": how could a record released in 2004 been a classic? And, sometimes, the "underrated" term comes to describe a bad ersatz of a pale imitation of a sub-Genesis third generation clone.
Now, I will get out and walk the dog to sober a bit myself.

Ah Picard:
You are in possession of a dog.
Now I understand your bringing up the practice of scatophilia.

The term "overrated" is overrated but I don't think it's annoying, just overused.

I consider the term Overrated not only arrogant, but also offensive.
For me the definition of overrated is:
Overrated: "All those millions who like X album are a bunch of idiots, because I say so."

^Quite right. But it can also apply to less known artists/bands.

"Overrated", even though I think "underrated" is slightly overrated.

None of them annoy me in the slightest.
