When I first discovered bands like Rush, Dream Theater, and Kansas in 2010, my dad introduced me to this website as a way for me to discover other bands that were "prog." I didn't even really know what that word meant at the time; all I knew was that I liked the music. I was instantly hooked on this website.

If it wasn't for ProgArchives, I probably wouldn't know about incredible bands like Echolyn, Pain of Salvation, or The Flower Kings. Every day I'm introduced to new music that usually sticks with me for a long time. Thanks for creating my new favorite website! Big smile

It all started when I saw these strange markings on the wall of an old ice cream shop. They were in a language I didn't understand. A homeless man approached me an said "Go to the field of dreams." After some thought, I assumed he meant Morpheus Field, 60 miles outside of town. I got into my car with my friend Pedro at the wheel.
"Where's my ice cream?" he said.
"Drive," I replied. And so he did. We drove for an hour until we reached our destination. The field was silent and still. Nothing seemed to be happening. Suddenly, I just had this compulsion to draw the markings I saw on the ground. After scratching my head to remember them, I finally did. Soon after, the ground started to glow and a crack appeared in the middle of a field.
"Whoa! What's happening?" shouted Pedro. The crack got bigger and the ground started to bulge. Then, rising up out of the dirt, was a gigantic automaton. The giant bent down and looked at us.
"Fred's Ice Cream," it said, "it's good."
    "What?!" said Pedro.
   "Cool," I said.

Then I googled "Yes album reviews."

^Sounds familiar.
I found it in my left shoe one night.

I discovered the site in 2008, but can't remember exactly how. Might have been someone else mentioning it on the Metal-Archives forums, but I'm not 100% certain.

I wanted to check the Metal-Archives, but I typed prog instead.
I've created an atmosphere where I'm friend first, boss second. Probably entertainer third.

Not really sure but I knew about this place from pretty much the beginning before anyone could actually be a member. Somehow this site just kind of snowballed into the massive site it is now leaving smaller sites like progressive ears in the dust(as far as number of members goes anyway).

I suppose I did a search on the internet. There were other similar sites at the time like prog freaks, prog toes and one called proglands which I think morphed into progarchives but it might have been different. I'm not sure. It was similar nonetheless. All those sites bit the dust but progarchives remains. I'm proud to say I have been here(although not a major contributer by any means)since pretty much the beginning.

I think I was searching for info on a band or review of an album that brought me here. I didn't join right away, but I kept coming back to this site because of the in depth reviews. Finally I decided to join.

I often found ProgArchives threads when researching bands that I like. I finally signed up because I want to participate in the conversations. I am eager to discover new music, especially when it is groundbreaking.

I wanted to see what the top 50 rated progressive rock albums were. Lo and behold I found more than I could have possibly bargained for.

Out of curiosity, I searched for Gentle Giant reviews, to see everyone's opinion on this group.

And I found this site, and I joined the forums yesterday.

I was searching for digital radio station shows that played progressive rock and asked for suggestions (in 2009). The first was from oliverstoned, followed by threefates and Dick Heath.
