Cynic are a phenomenal band, but maudlin of the Well gets the vote for me, hands down.  Bath and LYBM were the most life-changing albums for me, and the band still never ceases to amaze me after hundreds of listens.

Cynic is one of my favorite bands.But Maudlin of the well is one of my favorite bands too.And as you know,for me the musicality wins the technicality.So,Maudlin of the well!

I prefer Cynic because I can listen to them anytime. Admittedly I havn't heard as much maudlin as I would like, but from what I have heard I have to be in the right mood for it

If you take away Part the Second I'd probably go with Cynic. Both bands really changed the way I thought about metal and what the genres limitations would be. I'll have to take maudlin here, but that's not an insult to Cynic in the least.
