Enjoy Led Zeppelin but Black Sabbath were in a class of their own. Zep had the magic track Stairway to Heaven - Sabbath had the magic albums Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage - pity they didn't stay on the proggy road they were starting to tread.

Zeppelin's pallette is more varied and adult -- they have more moods. When they rock, they really rock, but when they slow it down, and go more acoustic (Tangerine, That's the Way, The Battle of Evermore, Goin' to California, etc, etc.) they are beautiful, and truly stir my soul. I LOVE their folky elements, and this band supplied much of the soundtrack to my youth. I also think Plant is a much stronger vocalist and a more literate, sensitive lyricist, with more range and emotion than Ozzy -- who gets the job done for his format. If I HAVE to throw albums out of the lifeboat/escape pod, I'll keep the Zeppelin, no hesitation. Edited by Peter - March 28 2013 at 22:26 |

Plus there's the Lord Of The Rings references in Zep -- what classic prog/fantasy fan could resist?
