On maudlin of the Well's albums Bath and Leaving Your Body Map, there are several connections with the Hebrew culture.  For example, a Bath is an ancient Hebrew unit of measurement, and Qliphoth relates to Hebrew mysticism. The purpose of this thread, though, is because there are several inscriptions in the liner notes in Hebrew that I, and many others I'm sure, are unable to read.  I searched the internet for any translation, but not surprisingly considering the albums' scarcity, I didn't find any.  Here I will upload pictures of each page in hopes that someone knows some Hebrew or has access to a translation of it.  It's worth noting that each page corresponds with the interludes on each album, and the fourth one also contains (very hard to read) English verses under Greek writing.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

I tried lining up some of those symbols with no luck. I just got stuff like "Ahahchma" or "Ahedachach"

The first line is a bunch of letters which to me don't mean much unless this is some sort of kabbalah or something of the sort. They might represent the name of God. I just asked a friend and he didn't know either

Again same thing with the two lines - The second says GVURA - meaning heroism.

Second line - HOD - meaning glory or splendor

I can't see clearly what it says

Ah, so the inscriptions are in Hebrew.  I've long been wondering what they've meant too.

I have the CDs and there are a good number of Jewish people on my floor, I'll ask around and see if anyone could possibly help me translate some.

Hmmm thanks a lot. I didn't realize the quality of that last one was bad until I uploaded it. I'll post a better version when I get the chance.

I just got home from work and looked in my cd's and the last one which wasn't good quality says:

YESOD - meaning Element or Foundation (as in a foundation for a structure or a theory).

It all reminds me of some cabbalistic crap that occurs in Umberto Eco's book Foucault's Pendulum, that I read some 25 years ago. I can't tell you the details because I'd rather stay away from that stuff.

Indeed this seems to be coming from the Kabbalah:
in there you'll see the names I translated above:
Gvura, Yesod, Hod, Bina
They are part of the Sphirot (counting in Hebrew - and it's pronounced Sphirot, not SEphirot; I always see added vowels in English pronunciation of Hebrew words).

So I guess the OP needs to learn some Kabbalah.... Smile

Is it sad that that was the first thing I thought of too?
