this was tough, and I don't know half of the names LOL, but some of them are quite well known (legends to some people).

what would Steely Dan be without a drummer, (not a rock band),  and that a solid one who with a ton of sparetime and stamina, one who never complains nor slacks, or comes unprepeard, im pretty sure shrinks got alot of paid thanks to the Steely Dan sessions Dead

so whos your favourite Dan drummer

Whoa Whoa Whoa, can't you just enjoy the albums without knowing all the musicians? I know Donald Fagen and Walter Becker and that guy they call "Skunk" who just seems weird. Need I know more?

My avatar tells you which album is my favorite, though there are some close rivals (Gaucho, and Fagen's first Solo)

That's an extremely hard one. Have to go with Gadd, but Porcaro, Purdie and Gordon are among my absolute favorite rock or jazz drummers. Gadd's the man though. Just listen to him absolutely killing it on "Aja" or on Al di Meola's Casino.

Someone on this poll should show Jim Gordon's drumming some love though. Sure he's a psycho killer in real life but we're talking about the musician here, not the man.

An awesome array of sticks-related talent. I picked Bernard Purdy for his work on The Royal Scam - the first SD album I fell in love with, and still the one I love the most.

I voted Bernard Purdy but Jim Gordon is a very close second.

^ good call. Jim Gordon was the man... and gets my first place vote.  He scared the sh*t out of a young Porcaro who admittedly aped his playing.  A legend on the drums.
I find your lack of Bassoon disturbing.....

Obviously Gadd's drumming on Aja is phenomenal, but I wanted to give some love to Jim Hodder for those vocals on Midnite Cruiser(also Dallas). Midnite Cruiser is a really good song from the debut album(which is a special album in a lot of ways because they really feel like a band on that one, more so than any of the others). So Hodder got my vote here.

Gadd is probably the most technically efficient and 'best'.....he has played with many great artists...but Hodder did the first 3 albums and I like Porcaro and Blaine's work on Katy Lied....for obvious reasons.

Purdy, even if it was only for Home At Last. A one of a kind master!

"Katy lied" was mostly Jeff's work... Blaine was more of a guest star in there, only playing on "Any world" if I recall correctly. Still a great song though, and a legendary drummer indeed. We have to give Porcaro his merits though, and he's the driving force behind the drumkit throughout the album. "Dr. Wu" and "Your gold teeth II" are particularly phenomenal tracks for Jeff.

So yeah I tend to agree with you about Steve Gadd being the best musician of them all, but Jeff Porcaro's still an absolute beast (big Toto fan here, I might be biaised).

Seeing what is your nickname, I'm assuming you already know all of this.

I think it seems pretty unfair to even compare him with the other Steely Dan drummers. Don't get me wrong, I really like the drumming on these first two albums, but to me Jim Hodder always was an above average, fairly skilled drummer and to even try and compare him with legends like Purdie, Gadd, Porcaro and Gordon is just pointless.
