Topic: Roxy Music - Avalon Posted: January 21 2011 at 17:45 |
for me this album is perfect with maybe one or two - points (but they are tiny) one of the best headphone albums ever produced, so warm and etherial gives you goosebumps
artsy pop rock at its best and their last album (for now)

The album title was an answer to a Jeopardy question this week.

If you like Avalon, I'd highly recommend Bryan Ferry's new album Olympia.

I voted The Main Thing, but really it's a toss up between that one, More Than This (great opener) and The Space Between.

Take a chance with Me, I love the atmospheric build up before the song itself begins. Great album though

True to Life: Gotta love that tremelo/delay effect on Ferry's vocals.

Agreed, Avalon is where they went a bit too smooth for me.

Yeah, it's smooth, but I still really like it. On a side note, Olympia's opener, You Can Dance, starts out with basically the same keyboard riff as True To Live, but then takes off in a heavier direction. Bryan's got a great set of guest musicians: Flea, his old buds: Manzanera, Eno, Mackay...

By the way, not too long ago (now a few years I think) Phil had in the news section on his web site that they were working on a new album, but it never materialized. I venture a guess that the material they were working on became Olympia.
I went with Take A Chance.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...
