Azure D'Or is the only album I have by Renaissance. Didn't encourage me to go farther although I do love Annie's voice.

You choice of "Azure D'Or" could only have been better at representing the Renaissance sound had you chosen "Camera, Camera" to listen to first. All the albums from "Ashes are Burning" to "Song for all Seasons" are worth a listen. Renaissance are a great band but still not in the class of Genesis (no disrespect to Renaissance).

As much as I love Renaissance, Genesis remain my all time time favourite prog band. Renaissance have made albums that trump some of the post W&W Genesis albums, but by and large their best does not compare with the best work of Genesis imo.

I prefer Renaissance and consider them more "symphonic" than Genesis

Oh my god! What´s the meaning of these polls with evidently presupposed results?
It seems to be unexhaustible source of topics: Prog Giant vs. Outsider!

Renaissance are not 'outsiders', just second division/weaker. |

It was an attempt at irony, and not a very good one at that. |

I think my collection of Renaissance far exceeds Genesis' and started much earlier. I was already into Renaissance before Genesis came along with "Selling England By The Pound" for me, and I immediately got their previous 2 albums and when they went pop music, I went with Anthony Phillips a friend that has allowed me to use his music in a poem and hopefully in a movie that I am working on. (I have used kevin Ayers before also). I have more AP albums than Genesis. I have more Renaissance than Genesis ... because Genesis after 4 albums is done and over with!
Sorry ... but when Peter left, Genesis only lasted one album and I think that material was already written with Peter. The material in Trick of the Tail resembles Peter's material with Genesis, not what Genesis went on to do. Edited by moshkito - January 25 2011 at 21:17 |

Er, the point is the albums with Peter are by far better than Renaissance, though you may well argue on that point too. I guess Genesis is "twee" and "weird" while Ren is classical...eh, whatever. |

Azure D'Or is not particularly representative of Ren and, barring Forever Changing, not much of Annie's talents either. |

This is not really the kind of comment we can expect on a prog rock forum...

I have all of Genesis' prog albums and two Renaissance compilation CDs. From a quantity standpoint it goes to the former. From a prog standpoint, I like the former slightly better but they're really close.

Already got more Renaissance albums... and I would like to vote for them because they are really exellent... I certainly would not put them under Genesis... but neither would I put them above them. So I vote Both. If there wasn't that option on this poll, I think I would actually vote Renaissance, Annies voice is just a delight to hear, while Gabriel's is almost a torture.

Voted for both, they both made outstanding music, I don't care that they released also very weak stuff in their careers.
If you're not into Renaissance I recommend of course all their most praised albums, but also A Song for All Seasons, not highly rated but very much worth it.

^SfaS isn't low rated. I have two songs off that and they are quite good.
