Mani - both his work with Guru Guru and his duets with great players such as Uchihashi Kazuhisa are pretty incredibly awesome.  Wyatt is great too, but not at quite the same level as far as drumming goes.

This is indeed difficult. I'm much more familar with Wyatt's work, so my vote is probably tainted. What I know of Mani I like though. And of course his duet with heavy manchinary is beyond awesome.

I'll vote for Wyatt. I only wish he could have continued drumming for many more years.

Inspired by my Canterbury vs Krautrock, I was listening to Soft Machine and Guru Guru the other day. What did I notice? They are both ridiculous drummers! They also sing, in their own special way. Ok, I know Robert Wyatt will win in the vote for singing, but this is about drumming. To me, Third is when we really get to see Wyatt shine on the drums. We hear how subtle he can be, but also very relentless. Slightly All the Time is a really great drum track if you focus on that. Mani Neumeier... oh boy he really kills. I don't know how he can do all those drugs and still play as fast as he does. He never stops. I would watch videos on youtube, and he would look so high, but still is able to hold his beats down. Both are really good drummers. So, which one do you prefer?
