Could argue the first three MO albums issued are a 'triology' because of a common line-up, but the belated Trident Studio Sessions then went and expanded that perception. So the link between the three listed here? |

"Birds Of Fire" and the "Trident Sessions" stand above the rest for me. So yeah i chose Birds Of Fire. |

The worst cover art of them all, and still the greatest Mahavishnu ORCHESTRA record.
Birds of Fire is my least favorite actually, it really doesn't have such great stuff. Though 'Miles Beyond' is killer.
Visions of the Emerald Beyond has some killer material, especially 'Eternity's Breath'.

Visions.
BOF always seemed weak to me, and Apoc. was one hell of a disappointing album.

I slightly prefer Visions over Apocalypse, Mahavishnu pt.2 is the winner generally - while pt.1 did great fusion, music of pt.2 stands over genres, verily "transcendental".

Love them all, but I rank Apocalypse at the top. John wore that orchestra out. I think the London folks must have had severe blisters on their fingers after those sessions.

Apocalypse comes just after visions, i think there are a few good tracks on the one nobody likes, i mean inner worlds, then after, the last real great times i had with mc laughlin was his album tittled electric guitarist on 1978 but i don't realy know later releases

I think Inner Worlds is the most mixed bag of what I consider the first run of the MO which started with Flame. John would go on in '80's with yet another version of MO, but for me the magic was gone despite having Jonas Hellborg on board. Lotus Feet on Worlds is superb. I think Can't Stand Your Funk kind of sums up why the latter 70's MO albums aren't well favored around here. Edited by Slartibartfast - February 09 2011 at 06:26 |
