Hillage by personal preference, although Holdsworth is more of an icon.

Steve Hillside-Village for me; as others have said, Holdsworth is far better technically but leaves me a bit cold.
Incidentally, Daevid Allen is a pretty fine psychedelic axeman in his own right - not as accomplished as either of the other two but not to be overlooked or under rated.

As much as I love Gazeuse!, for Gong Steve was the man. I just prefer Gong with Daevid Allen there.

I can't fairly vote, because I listen to the Radio Gnome Trilogies, but I do enjoy Steve Hillage's guitar work, and I also loved him in Khan, and Fish Rising.

Alan Holdsworth is a genius, but Steve Hillage is very creative and innovative.

I almost didn't vote. I've always loved Hillage's solo work, but Holdsworth is probably one of the top ten most innovative guitarists of all time, and technically as players, there's no contest.

Hillage was perfect for Daevid Allen's Gong and Holdsworth was perfect for Perre Morelens Gong being more fusion based. It's a tie for me.

Holdsworth, hands down. Yes, Hillage was perfect for Gong, but overall, Allan's style appeals to me more. He definitely knew his way around the fretboard!

I also prefer Hillage since i saw him live about 2 years ago with Daevid Allen, he totally blew my mind when i wasn't expecting it at all.
