I would love to see something ... that just flows ... and it might have a story or not ... but maybe less song oriented and more along the lines of what they did in Snow Goose.
Not that I want to revisit the old days at all ... but it would be nice to see someone do something long for a change, and something that makes Mike Oldfield come off as ... really lazy these days!

I'd be stoked for a new Camel album. It's been a while since Ive listened to their music for the most part, and I only have their last album from their post-70s output. It's very good, and I would expect another great album based on that. Ive heard their other stuff after the 70s, but was never inclined to check them out to extensively. Their 70s albums are fantastic.

I have a lot of affection for the late 70s/early 80s Camel albums. Those were the albums that got me into them in the first place - a radio station back in the 70s played all of "Breathless" as its lunchtime album, and my father taped it. A few years later, Camel were my first concert experience, in 1982 on the Single Factor tour. That version of the band was in a bit of disarray, kind of struggling (I think Andy Ward's problems and eventual departure were a big part of this), but still able to put out a decent album. I still play "Breathless" and "I Can See Your House" very, very often and love the whole thing. Still, I think "Mirage" has to be my favorite album overall. It's pretty flawless.

No real weak period for the group. I prefer to the early stuff because it is less Latimer-dominated. The rich keys of the Bardens era add a welcome dimension. That said, Stationart Traveller is my favourite Camel album because it is really a complete work, which would have been harder to achieve with more than one guy at the controls. Everything since Dust and Dreams has been good or better, but it depends on my mood. If you haven't heard the French band "Mirage", check out their "Tales from the Green Sofa", possibly the best album Camel didn't make

A few years ago I thought that Camel was a great band from the 70's, that today are clinging on to their glory days, boy was I wrong, when I listened to Rajaz the first time I couldn't believe it, I loved it, and immediately got A Nod and a Wink, which was another superb album, I thought what a comeback! But now after I got Nude and Harbour of Tears I realize that it wasn't a comeback, Camel were always there, producing wonderful albums, and are one of the best bands today. So I'm very glad to hear, first of all that Andy is ok and that an album may come out.

Those albums post Bardens have his moments. BUT in my opinion, Pete was a irreplaceable part of the compositional core

Yeah, I read that Susan Hoover report as well, quite some time ago. If Andy is taking his time, that can only be a good thing.
As to older vs. newer Camel, they are like a different band really. Nude was kind of a taster for what the 80's and 90's material would be like. I happen to enjoy them both immensely, depending on my mood. The latter stuff is more mood based, while the 70's stuff is more compositionally dense (best way I can think to describe it at the moment). In any case, it's all good. Looking forward to new stuff! |

Back in the day, I´ve found "Nude" a bit boring and bland (lethal combination, for me). I´ve purchased this CD in his japanese version, some years ago, and meanwhile got some nice and even powerful tunes ("Docks"), the rest it feels like an Andy´s solo effort, IMHO. Maybe a glimpse of things to come, at best. A prelude to DAD, HOT, etc.

It took me several years but I finally was able to get "Nude" ... which is an album I happen to like a heck of a lot ... I have not checked the other material later than that, so I will reserve notes or thoughts, but their earlier stuff is top knotch in my book and still exciting to my ear. And damn pretty too!

This is great news! When I ordered my Moonmadness shirt directly from the band it came with a little note that reads "With our thanks...it is through your support that Camel continues to make music".
I thought that was awesome

Yes! His health problems are over. According to Susan Hoover's reports on the official Camel website, there will be no definitive dates announced for the new Camel project until a cohesive body of work has been created. She states that it is safe to say that a new Camel album is in the future. Hooray!

yes apparently he has recovered quite well and even contributed to an album by David Minasian But wikipedia is the only place i have seen mention of work on new Camel material. But if it happens i would love to see this band just once live

Thanks for posting this. I haven't had the time to research Camel activities but now I will make the time. It is to my understanding that Andy Latimer had a form of cancer (don't quote me), and that he has recovered. I would love to hear a new Camel release.
