Not sure how many of you guys have heard this Welsh band, but their debut album Synesthesia is a cracker. For me they're a stoner rock band with clear prog metal influences that get more pronounced as their debut album progresses. They're lead by a bloke who acts in the Dr. Who spin-off- Torchwood, but don't let that put you off. Synesthesia is a great album, loud and bluesy with a strong prog metal feel. The vocalist reminds me at times of James Hetfield, albeit Gareth David-Lloyd has a much more versatile voice than the Metallica frontman.
The band describes themselves as; "At it's most basic it's Prog Metal though the elements of Stoner Rock and Blues all rear their heads from time to time. "

Let's hope it's not John Barrowman.

Isn't John Barrowman already included on this site?Cry My Nan swears by him!

Not holding up a huge amount of hope for Blue Gillespie given some of the exclusions I've seen but am interested in members' views.

Calling this Prog would have been commercial suicide had this been released in the grunge/stoner heyday 20 years ago.
Times have changed... Seems like "Prog" is a quality tag again.

As to the actual Prog content I can't say I'm overwhelmed at first sight,
there's a certain math-rock/Tool influence in the riffs, but the songwriting is mainly verse-chorus stoner rock with Hetfield-does-the-blues vocals.

I'll certainly give the album a couple of listens, I quite like this sort of stuff.

This band is growing into something quite special.

Though you can't call Synesthesia a purists prog album you can hear in the bones of it that prog is definitely the way they are going.

I believe their debut was a finding of their musical feet and a perfect unpretentious introduction to the band.

You cant really call Opiate or Undertow from Tool pure prog albums either though they were delivered by one of the best contemporary prog rock bands I know.

BG's next album from their own words promises to be more progressive, epic and conceptual. I eagerly wait.
