Orpheus - atmospheric rock with some progressive elements; based in the UK; see: www.myspace.com/orpheusofficial
They have a debut album out in 2010 and a new EP announced this year. They should definitely be on prog archives - great musicianship and doing something interesting. |

They seem to be unsigned, though, and only two very short samples are available. Let us know when more is realeased!

Hey there,
Their last album was on a label: Paradigms Recordings. At the moment they're between labels. This page sums up their legitimacy: http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=3540325078 Hope to see Orpheus on prog archives soon! |

To me, it sounds more like melodic death metal than anything else. I don't hear much prog, IMO

Melodic death?! hehe... you have the wrong Orpheus. Listen here: www.myspace.com/orpheusofficial Or, if you think it is melodic death you need to clean your ears out. |

Good to know about their eligibility, thanks. Are there any samples available other than the two from MySpace?

Thanks Andy. With these new samples I feel it's safe to say that to me this band sounds like Lunatic Soul, so I'll ask the Crossover Team for the evaluation.

By the way, because those links on MMF are medleys, there is a full track here that you may want to listen to:
http://www.orpheus.ws/Nansen.mp3 With the classical/jazz etc. influences in Orpheus I can't see which other category they are better suited to overall than in prog. The obvious comparison is Opeth, but Orpheus is less metal orientated with them, with some different approaches.
This is an accurate comparison actually! Edited by Hevelius - April 09 2011 at 08:48 |

^ It would be good to have more samples to evaluate them. Medleys are very, very short and I have yet to hear that Nansen track. But still, it's just one track.

There's a point where "avant-garde" and "experimental" becomes "terrible" and "pointless,"

^ Oh, OK - will check. I have to say that said Nansen track, even just one track, sounds very promising.
