VOTA
IMO superior even to A Trick of the Tail.

In my opinion all the Hackett albums have lights and shadows. He has not an amazing album. Yes he has some amazing tracks. For me, Spectral Mornings and Darktown are the best. Everyday and Spectral Morning from the first one and Twice around the sun, Jane Austen's door and In memorian from the second are excellent tracks. Voyage of the Acolyte has some good thinks too. As an overall piece I will go with Darktown.

as a huge SH fan---I generally agree with genbanks---but Steve has done some of the best prog music--but his albums are never perfect---one that is not on the list that I really played to death was Guitar Noir---but their are gems on nearly all his albums ---part of his problem for a perfect album is the vocals are never great except on VOTA

Spectral and Voyage are truly tasty, Darktown is right there also.

I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

To Watch The Storms
has some of the most beautifull tracks I've ever heard (Rebecca and Wind, Sand and Stars in particular) as well as some very strong heavier prog stuff ,allbeit with nods to King Crimson's debut.

let's just stay above the moral melee prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword

Yes! I agree, Guitar Noir is a good one too. It has really good moments. Sierra quemada, Take this pearls, and others are great tracks.

I love Mr. Hackett and this is a tough poll. For me very close between VOTA and Spectral Mornings, give the slight edge to VOTA.

The live album 'time lapse' is close to perfection, very neo-prog sounding, since it has the Pendragon drummer on some tracks, the Marillion drummer on other tracks :
