yea, this album may be something like if Opeth was around in 1973 (but not derivative), so there will still be some riffs, but with other things going on that have not appeared on an Opeth album before

I'm confused. Is this going to be a metal album without death growls or a clean album like Damnation or both?

Probably a very twisted keyboard-heavy hard rocking clean album.

the fact that jazz and funk alone are part of the album has me really intrigued.

Sounds to me this is going to sounds much like The Lotus Eater from their last album but without the growls. no doubt that song worked as a break from all the metal, but 50+ minutes of it. Time will tell...

Opeth have released info on their new album, Heritage which will apparently feature no death metal. The cover is a pretty big clue as to their new 70's prog influenced direction but I'm still a little suprised. It would be easy to assume this could be a new damnation album but.. I don't know, I'm not really sure what top expect. Pretty exciting, though

Opeth?

Oh, yeah. Opeth.

I'm expecting it to sound King Crimson-ish.

Yes, all those albums with growls sure didn't earn them tons of fans or anything.

Yes, it's not like anybody like Still Life or Ghost Reveries or any of those albums...

Oh yes I forgot people all around know Opeth only because of Damnation; the rest of the albums are pretty much ignored by the masses.

Even here in PA, they're here because of Damnation, not because of their actually more complex, progressive, other albums that include growling and death metal...

Update: So the former drummer from Weather Report will be making an appearance on Heritage. Very interesting indeed.

What are Mikael's favorite prog bands.

Popul Vuh, Comus, Camel. Stew them in a pot and see what happens. And then write all the songs in 6/8.
You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.
