I know this should have gone in the official Heritage thread but I'm too lazy. Anyways, the song is out as a radio rip!
Enjoy and tell me what you think:

Indescribably boring. I'll check out the other songs to be sure, but this seems to be the logical next stepon the road to "please break up" land that Watershed started.

Here's the "official" link. http://stereogum.com/766792/opeth-the-devils-orchard-stereogum-premiere/franchises/haunting-the-chapel/

I love it, probably my most wanted album at the moment after Grace for Drowning.

I think we can all agree here that Stonie's gonna stone.

I'm not amused. Hope this isn't supposed to be the best song.

It's probably the most mainstream-friendly song, that would be why they release it first as a single.

My hopes, at least.

Besides, it's better than anything off Watershed.

Here's the album samples. I'm really excited for this. It sounds like it's going to be their most mature album to date.

Unlike the single, these samples have me wanting to hear more.

I'll buy this one, no question. Samples alone don't often convince me, but I like the band so my support will be winging its way to the bank accounts...of their record company I suppose.

It sounds a little more measured than other albums, and a lot more diverse than Watershed was for instance.

I listened to the leak at a friend's house. Opeth worst hour. Indescribably dull and uninspired.

Put it this way, Watershed seems like a masterpiece compared.

Interesting. Do you feel like that partly because of a lack of aggression (I will miss his growls)? Has the songwriting slipped? Is it too mid-tempo over-all?

Personally, it feels like Opeth pulled a Pain of Salvation. They tried very hard to make it have a very specific 60s/70s feel, and they succeeded. The problem is it's boring an the songwriting is lackluster. I guess if you really like acoustic guitar prog and 70s Hammond-based prog, it might be ok. But still, it is the exact opposite of what I want in an Opeth album.
