More Fool Me is just awful. Battle of Epping Forest sounds like someone took all the average parts of a good album and glued them together rather poorly. After the Ordeal is just a filler which fails to contribute to the album at all (unlike the Dark Side fillers). And Aisle of Plenty is just an outro. |
I see you are disgruntled. I disagree with nearly everything you said except about Cinema.
seems as though this poll will be the decider of better 5 album, Floyd or Genesis. The others went 2-2.

Dark side has much more soul than SEBTP. SEBTP just doesnt move me, it feels forced. I also dont like the folky sound that album has. Dark side has the music, the concept, and the best artwork of all time IMO.

Both are fabulous, absolutely essential albums.
An interesting thing is to compare the production on these two classics. Considering they were recorded about six months apart (if memory serves me rightly) DSOTM, which I'm sure came slightly earlier of the two, is absolutely light years ahead in terms of production.
I'll just give the nod to DSOTM, a truly timeless classic that sounds as good as it did back in the 70s.

DSOTM is really the album that got me genuinely interested in music. It's got my vote.

Dark Side is a perfect album, while Selling England has it shares of flaws.

I had DSOTM before SEBTP, it was probably 2 years later when I purchased my first copy of SEBTP. Although over the past 20 years I have listened to Selling England 10x more than Dark Side. So I pick Selling England By the Pound, main reason is the whole album is 100% listenable, each song is excellent.
I find myself skipping thru a lot of Dark Side.....its just a phase I assume. It is probably the most important album in art/psychadelic rock history.

Whatīs the criteria for overrating or underrating, please? I mean thatīs very subjective. Using this logic, I can admit the adjective "overrated" to whatever album which I want and nobody can disprove it. |
Agree. The word overrated means only that a person doesn't like something as much as most other people do.
In my view these albums are deservedly ranked among the very best ever made. I voted DSOTM for the simple reason that I like it slightly more than SEBTP.

Just helped Dark Side widen the gap a little bit. Listened to it last night on the way back from Fresno and almost forgot how orgasmic this album is in it's entirety.
