You'll need 50 posts before you can vote. Rule to prevent people from making accounts to rig polls.

I agree. I love "Selling England" too, but there's nothing like Dark Side IMO.

PS: I can't vote in the poll, why?? Do I need to have more posts??
I shook my head and smiled a whisper knowing all about the place

I do not want to vote in this poll because both are very important albums for such different reasons, in my opinion.

Whereas I probably never need to listen to Dark Side again, I do consider it to be a perfect sounding album.  Do I love the music?  Not particularly.  It's so slick and works so well and I think of it as inhabiting the ideal structure with the best lyrics, greatest sound, total nuance and mind f**k.  However, I now know it and there's not much that will surprise me.  It works completely on the surface (but the surface is like a hundred billion pixels of resolution)

Selling England???  Not really the best Genesis album for me.  I probably don't need to hear that album either.  But, if I did hear it, I would be surprised by something and shocked by the clunky lyrics in one of the songs, the bad filler songs, the sublime main songs.  It's evocative and dangerous and sad and quite raw.  Almost the opposite of Dark Side (which is really very light...)  Selling England is much darker for these ears.

Two required readings!

Selling England anytime anywhere...  In fact Pink Floyd isn't among my top 5 bands, more to it I prefer Floyd's Wish You Were Here over TDSOTM. Maybe even Medley :-)

Ouch, tough poll. Both are progressive rock classics, but I'm going to have to go with "Selling England By the Pound". Definitely more representative of the genre, especially with songs such as "Firth of Fifth", "Dancing With the Moonlit Knight", and "The Cinema Show". Heck, I think every song on there is great personally.

Really hard choice, two excellent albums. I'm a bit inclined to think that Selling has greater peaks, specially Moonlit Knight and Firth of Fifth, and to a bit lesser extent Cinema Show, and this songs are greater examples of prog than anything on Dark Side... however, Dark Side wins as a whole listening experience, as stated before, it doesn't have anything like Epping Forest or More Fool Me... even the lesser (On the Run) or more pop (Money) songs from Dark Side are an integral part of the album and I wouldn't do without them, even if I don't like them so much. So, in the end, I'm going for Dark Side.

DSotM is consistently excellent all the way through, conceptually, lyrically and musically; whereas Selling England has the inane "Battle of Epping Forest" and the middling "More Fool Me" and "I Know What I Like".
...a vigorous circular motion hitherto unknown to the people of this area, but destined

Dark Side of the Moon is a work of art, no genre required. A classic of all-time, a masterpiece. And that's coming from someone who has listened to to the album less than SEbtP.

Two great masterpieces. Like comparing Monet to Renoir?

Or like comparing Storm Thorgerson (and team) to Betty Swanwick.
