Caravanserai gets my vote. It is my favourite Santana album and one of my favourites of all albums.
Agreed
But I understand what Jean Marie is getting to.... looking at Santana's discography, Borboletta is definitely the little brother of Caravanserai.... They most likely tried to repeat the formula with a few modifications (more singing).... but couldn't better it

Caravanserai every time for me. Great opening, one of my faves in fact!

Caravanserai. It's a masterpiece, as is Borboletta and Welcome. Just include Love, Devotion and Surrender with John McLaughlin - there's my Santana collection.
My favorite Santana recording Lotus is from around the same time. I bought it cheap 15 years ago and haven´t looked back since. It is The Santana album I would rescue from a fire.

What's funny for me is that Santana got played at the house a lot in my late teens as both my Mom and Brother were big fans. I didn't get to know these two albums until fairly recently. Moonflower got worn out though. I like them both but I'm going to have to get on the caravanserai

Zowie Ziggy wrote in his review for Caravanserai "The opener "Eternal Caravan of Reincarnation" is not a fave of mine ("Singing Winds,
Crying Beasts", the Abraxas opener was already pretty much similar). I wonder who
decided to have this one as an opener...The start is mysterious, with sounds
(supposedly) coming out of the desert but the quite slow and jazzy pace never lifts off.
One of the two poorest Caranvanserai track without any doubt."
I, on the other hand, love it and think it one of the best. To each his or her own, and that kind of jazz really appeals to me. Excellent opener. Caravanserai for me.

Hi,
I have to listen to the other album again ... but I can tell you that I love listening to Caravanserai for the first 20 minutes non-stop and it is lovely!
It's just too bad that he is chasing girls much more than he is the music ... but that is another story and not a progressive one, at that!

I agree that Borboletta is the "little brother" of Caravanserai, and that's why I find it rather "dumb" to put both agaisnt each other. (no offense) I mean, the result is obvious.
You could have done something like this, which would probably have more interesting results:
Caravanserai and Borboletta VS Santana and Abraxas (or some other pairing)
