this is a head acheing disturbense for me as a Mastodon fan and also as an avid fan of fantasy literature and mythology thus  leaves me with many sleepless nights debating with myself and sometimes i spend my day time when Im out for a walk or take the buss about this nerdie question.

the classical elements that are tied/conected with the different Mastodon albums are not so importent per se, but it ads a more conceptual depth and completion to the hole Mastodon franchise, its like a bouns effect to the album, since it tells the bands from different stages in its evolution, it make you wanna buy keep buy albums Big smile.

Remission which is loosely based on fire, it is easy to imagine that it can be viewd or compared to the birth of the solar system (lots of heat and fire), which images the birth to Mastodon as well, like a ball of fire, pulseating and explodes,

i often compare Remission to a cheramic owen on full

Leviathan is based on water, which means that it is calm and reflective in parts but in most parts deep, violent,  large, and overwhelming.

Blood Mountain is earth or rock, which indicated that this album is solid, tight as solid sediment, granite, hard punching and rumbling beast, but also deep and luminuss valleys

to me Crack the Skye is more spacy then airy, deeper and more filosofical it also features one song, the Quintessence which indicate something about something that are more then four, CtS reach beyond the atmophere it is out in space and beyond time. above the bounderys of the forth element Air

so have they jumped over one element or is CtS Air, to me it is not, it is Aether even if it is not logical in terms of the line/rule which elements are supposed to follow

what say you

I've never looked at music this way but im interested and will give it a try.

I would have to say that Crack the Skye has more characteristics of Air than Aether.
It doesnt really have a spacey or mellow tone embedded, but it has a sense of flow..

So i look at the album like a forming storm or hurricane?
It has heavy and strong tones through out the album but, it has a slight concentrated trance to it.

Hope this makes sense like yours did Confused

okey cool, that might be true, but if I think CtS is spacy, and its actualy Air, then what would the fifth album be like. trippy

I think Air and Aether are pretty similar, but I feel like Crack the Sky has more to do with... well... the sky than just plain ol' air.

I've read several interviews where the guys refer to Crack the Skye as their Aether record.
A wise man once said, " I have always wanted to be quoted."

Aether feels right but air too, maybe a mix of the two, but i vote for aether anyway.
