Dawn is my favourite prog album of all time. Eloy, of course, is the best band. Yep.

I got it vice versa, but not bad.

Performance is really the only album of theirs that's not great.

To me Eloy as important as most other big prog bands, easily can just grab any of their albums and enjoy the ride..

Dawn is the one I grab the most.. followed by Floating and Inside..but after seeing Silent Cries and Mighty Echoes posted more than a few times, think that will go in the car next :)

Downplayed by a lot of fans, i love the self-titled debut Eloy album. In fact, it is my favorite after Inside.

My fav is Oceans, Frank Bornemann's strong German accent is the band's weakness, but once you get used to it is not that bad.

Silent Cries, Ocean, and Floating are my favorites at the moment.

Also, at first the accent was something that turned me off from this band, but eventually i got used to it. Now i think it gives the band something distinctive.

Completely agree. Don't forget the original Ocean album though!

I actually think it gives it a distinct charm... Some may consider it "lame" but... I couldn't imagine Eloy without that thick accent of Frank's.

Time to Turn is a minor fav for me. It benefits from being an 80s release in terms of the nice 80s clarity on the sound, good use of the technology, but still warm. Metromania was more outright 80s in terms of what they were doing with the technology, and reminds me a little of Rush around that time. Time To Turn is a wonderful album and although you just can't understand a word the man is saying, the vocals are very genuine and earnest. You can't help but not like the vocalist, he does a great job with the accent and so-so English he definitely has. The lyrics are good, that I can remember or could understand.

Yeah 1980-83 is their best period I think. The albums have several strong tunes each.

I just recently got into Eloy myself, I got Oceans which was excellent and highly majestic music, and followed it up with Dawn, which was nearly as good, listening to those samples on  youtube is prompting me  to move my way forward chronologically , looks like my next purchase will be, Silent Cries

One of my favourite bands. By the way ELOY is popular in Russia among lovers of prog and space electronic music. I like the sound and concept of the albums. Don't forget to check out their last album "Visionary" (2009). Not most impressive effort but there are some good moments and the sound, the mood of music still is unique.

If you are new to this music - start with Ocean and Silent Cries...

They had stretched the formula by the '80s, and it thinned out their catalog integrity-wise. They did have some catchy, thoughtful stuff in the '70s though.
