Like everyone operating in the 60s/ 70s everything by T Dream then is either essential or most excellent.

Whatever Oldfield has does and it is considerable he did not resort to using Casio 80s keyboard sounds and feature said content on a box set. I still have memories of blood draining from the physiognomy when I heard that...

Recommend Oldfield at Montreux 1980 DVD while I think of it.

I find Oldfield's songs with Maggie Reilly ten steps above everyone else recording songs.  His epics are superb - the only thing I find with new age type musical thinking is a lack of ... drive I suppose. More critical types might use the word "balls" but I am far too restrained for such vulgarity.

Nobody's Perfect.

Who's vocal is worse? Edgar who I heard for the first time on that album he did featuring Brian May. (?!) He should not have done so. And it was only a stage announcment. Yes - that bad.

Or Mike's pre-death growl growl. Appalling. Or good if you like that sort of thing. Oh well at least it was not as bad as pop / rap or Steven Wilson's death growl (attempt).

Oh vote choice?

We'll cross that Rubycon when we come to Hergest Ridge.

Wow, quite the close race. I enjoy Mike Oldfield more though, especially seeing as 20-year-old Oldfield could outdo most of what TD was doing at the time.

I haven't gone beyond 1986 with TD but enjoy a good 22 of the albums up to then - including Electronic Meditation and the live albums issued with recent releases of Atem and Zeit Star.
