I expected Carpet of the Sun to make a good showing here. The top votes are more along Renaissance's 'epic scope' realm, so perhaps CoS is too much of a 'straight forward ballad'. Still- anyone looking for prototypical Renaissance songs for a compilation should give it a listen.

Hard choice. A Song For All Seasons was my introduction to them so even if the earlier albums are probably stronger, Seasons will always hold a special place in my heart, the tandem of Opening Out and The Day Of The Dreamer still sends shivers down my spine, as the title track does. But they have so many other gems, Mother Russia is so damn beautiful and so many others, Can You Hear Me and Touching Once from Novella being often underrated.

Not a big Renaissance fan but I absolutely love "Can You Understand".

I really like the albums I got from them. I guess I'm between "Ashes are Burning", "Mother Russia" and "Scheherazade". I'm going with Mother Russia. I feel Shceherazade just kind of failed as a single epic songs, they got too many segments in the middle, but the first ten minutes or so are just perfect, and then the ending too.

Ashes are burning by a whisker to Scheherazade. Andy Powell's guitar work in the studio version of the song is the icing on the cake. | Yeah, I really miss that guitar on the live versions of the song. But on the other hand, Annies vocals on the end of the song from the live versions kind of makes up for the lack of guitar, I really love them.

Greensleeves. | Are you serious? Or is this some kind of joke? Did they really ever play Greensleaves? For I really love that little piece of music.

"Things I don't understand" by just a hair over "Mother Russia".

"Trip" = "Scheherazade" = "Ashes". To sum up, no vote.

^ I'm a Russian, ... and I should know such things. Damn. I just don't read lyrics.
"Mat' Rossiya!" ... or "Mat' Rus'!" ... or "Matushka Rossiya!" Say it loud and bold!

I will second Carpet of the Sun. For me, it's like a "first among equals" kinda thing. Like them all but this one a little more.

Shows how much I know, I would have thought Ashes are Burning would win by a mile.
Another vote for Ashes - just beating Trip to the Fair and A song for all Seasons
