My favourite of the "lesser known" tracks is "On the Frontier".

Mother Russia, but the live version of Ashes Are Burning on "Carnegie Hall" has that great Bass solo and the excellent final with Annie picking her higher notes...
Curiosity killed a cat, Schroedinger only half.

Another vote for Ashes - just beating Trip to the Fair and A song for all Seasons

I am surprised too, more that it is losing out to Mother Russia.  Ashes is such a haunting and atmospheric track.  But maybe Mother Russia is more epic and all that, different strokes....

"Prologue" and "Tales of 1001 Nights" are the only 2 I have. That live version of "Can You Hear Me?" is incredible and certainly my favorite. Listening to the studio version for the first time right now and its pretty damned good too. Annie's voice is chilling on that one.

HA! Its the same version. I always thought the 1001 nights version was live. Lernt something.

I like the Albert Hall performance a shade better than the studio one.   At just after 11:30, Annie finishes with a kind of quivering vibrato not unlike that of a trumpet (with a brass section playing in the background, incidentally).

Now, do you mean the last part on the studio version of the song, or the live ones?

Those are all great songs but my personal favorite has always been Black Flame from Turn of the Cards.

I just found about Blackmore's night a few weeks ago because I saw it at the recrod store I usually visit... I think it must be the last album. I still haven't heard anything from them, but got intererested. Is the "Ocean Gypsy" cover on the last album, or some previous one?

I voted Ashes to tie things up again, based on the live version on Carnegie Hall.  Otherwise would be Mother Russia followed by Song for all Seasons, but a lot of real winners here

I really like the Scheherazade album. The previous 2 albums aren't bad but lack the sound and composition quality. Trip to the fair is probably my fave song by Renaissance
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.
